You may expect the following during your first visit
1. Arrive at your appointment with your paperwork(-link to patient forms page) completed ( you can download it from our website), or arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork at the clinic.
2. You will provide us with your prescription/referral for physical therapy from your physician/podiatrist/dentist/chiropractor/nurse practitioner/ physicians assistant
3. We will copy your insurance card
4. A physical therapist will see you for your initial evaluation
Your therapist will then formulate a list of problems and their probable causes and develop a plan to treat those problems with the patient’s input. Included in this plan will be the number of visits per week and how many weeks you may need therapy, home exercise programs (HEP), short term and long term goals and patient education. Your plan will be created with input from you, your therapist and your doctor. In most cases you will also be treated the day you are evaluated.
Bring your physical prescription/referral (provided by your doctor) and your payment information. If you have any medical records or test results of x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, etc...that are pertinent to your case please bring those along with you.
If your insurance is covering the cost of physical therapy, please bring your insurance card. Worker’s compensation patients please bring your claim number and your case manager’s contact information. If you are to be covered by auto insurance please bring this information.
Loose comfortable clothing should be worn so you may expose the area that is to be evaluated and treated. For example if your knee is to be assessed you may want to wear shorts or loose pants/sweats. For low back problems you may want to wear loose shirt and pants. If you have a shoulder problem you may want to wear a tank top. Comfortable shoes are also recommended. Gowns are available for your convenience as well.
Each treatment session typically lasts 45 to 90 minutes depending on what is required.
The number of visits is dependent on the individual, the diagnosis, the severity of the impairments, prior level of function, your past medical history, your insurance coverage/allowance, etc. This is highly variable and can range from one visit to 2-3 visits/week for several months depending on you diangosis. You will be re-evaluated on a regular basis and a progress note will be provided to you when you see your doctor with your therapist’s recommendations. Your physical therapist will discuss with you how long you should expect to be in therapy in order to reach your goals.
When appropriate, therapeutic exercise is a very important part of your rehabilitation program. The gym is utilized for postural re-education, gait training, and bio-mechanical assessment. Cardio-vascular machines, free weights, foam rolls, weight machines and other equipment are utilized to create an individual program and home exercise programs (HEP) as developed during treatment and at discharge for continued therapy at home.
More than half of all Americans are suffering from some pain. Physical therapists are equipped to treat the pain, but more importantly the source of the pain. They are experts at treating movement and neuro-muscular disorder. Pain often accompanies a movement disorder and a physical therapist may be able to correct the disorder in order to relieve the pain. The goal is to discover the source of the problem so that once the dysfunction is properly treated and addressed it is no longer an issue for the long term.
You will be evaluated by one of our licensed and highly trained physical therapists. The primary therapist will also be the one to treat you during subsequent visits. We feel it is very important for the quality and continuity of care to develop a one-on-one relationship with each patient, unlike other clinics where you may be seeing someone different with each visit.
One of the primary objectives for many patients is pain relief, therefore we strive to progress your rehabilitation and restore your function with this in mind.
Yes, unlike many physical therapy clinics where treatment is provided in an open space, we have four dedicated private treatment rooms along with a gym to maximize your comfort and privacy.
